Local media in Turkey:

The video, produced by journalist Çiçek Tahaoğlu, explores the challenges faced by the local media, offering a glimpse through the eyes of journalists in Mersin

Our video titled "Small City Big News: Local Press in Turkey", which focuses on the problems of the local press in Turkey, is online.

Produced by journalist Çiçek Tahaoğlu and edited by Yiğit Akbıyık, the video delves into the problems of the local press: How does the local press make its voice heard? How does it survive in the face of economic difficulties? How does the censorship mechanism work at local level and how does it affect journalists?

Featuring interviews with Hediye Eroğlu, managing editör of Mersin Haberci newspaper, and Okan Çalışkan, president of the Tarsus Media Members Association, the video provides insights into the working conditions of journalists in Mersin, a Mediterranean province which has gained national and international attention for issues such as the Akkuyu nuclear power plant and the import of millions of tons of plastic waste from Europe.

You can watch the full video (in Turkish) on P24's YouTube channel.
